I perused my usual catalogs, compiled my list, even made my seed order before it returned.
Armed with the web address, I finally visited their site and found myself deep in admiration.
Fruition Seeds, based in nearby Naples, N.Y., features seeds grown in the greater Finger Lakes region (greater is defined by several FL growers, supplemented by small seed companies based in Vermont and Montreal). Their offerings are limited in this early stage -- some plant categories have few choices.
But, since the seeds are locally grown, the buyer can be assured that the resultant plants are well-suited to region-specific conditions.
According to the website, Fruition Seeds is even collaborating with local chefs to select seeds that meet particular culinary needs.
It's an ambitious project -- yet one more manifestation of the region's growing focus on food, in all its varied aspects.
I am intrigued!
