A long drive? Sure! But it was our anniversary. And nothing says I love you like an overnight in a $56 Days Inn in central Jersey.
Having never been there before, we decided to go to the beach early Saturday morning. And soon found ourselves in Asbury Park, famed hometown of Mr. Bruce Springsteen and The Stone Pony where he got his start.
It was a beautiful, sunny, crisp, March day. We walked the beach here and then continued south and marveled at the still evident devastation from Superstorm Sandy last fall. I took a few pictures but judging from the number of people out working/fixing/building/cleaning and the number of police officers stationed up and down Ocean Ave., we felt like we were part of the problem not the solution. "Gawker" is not a word I comfortably associate with myself. I may not be a fan of rampant beach development, but the millions of dollars of destruction still on display five months later is sobering.
Dwell opens Sunday, March 10 and runs through April 18. An opening reception is scheduled for the 10th from 2-6pm.
